Week 16 Summary

What a week of football

Hello everybody,

So I'm back with another summary and I have decided to write one long summary every week instead of some very short summaries that come on some days (But my Champions League summaries will stay the same. So let's start off with the biggest and most interesting leagues and the first one will be:

La Liga

La Liga is by far the most interesting league and the most exciting league in the world at the moment. With the battle at the top three places really heating up, every La Liga game that these three teams play is like a final. If one team wins, the other two teams have very high pressure on them to keep the battle going. But this big title race started all after Barcelona's poor form. Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the Clasico and after that Barcelona's losses came one after another. They were knocked out of the Champions League. They lost three games in a row in La Liga (against Valencia, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid). As for the two Madrid teams, they were in great form. Real Madrid won against Wolfsburg and advanced to the Semi-Finals of the Champions League and Atlético Madrid was the team that actually knocked out Barcelona from the Champions League. And Real Madrid's great form in La Liga didn't make it easier for the catalans. 9 wins in a row right now and the number is increasing.

      But Barcelona did meet, and even exceed the expectations when they were up against Deportivo and then Sporting Gijón. The match against Deportivo saw Pique suspended but Dani Alves was back. Barcelona were able to get an 8-0 win against Deportivo away, and four of the goals were from Suárez. And on the 23rd of april they were up against Sporting Gijón. The first half was a pretty even half. Pique's handball should have been a penalty but the referee didn't say anything. Barcelona got a goal through a header from Messi. The first half score was 1-0 to Barcelona. But the second half turned out to be a very different story. Barcelona received 3 penalties and two of them were scored by Luis Suárez. Suárez got himself four more goals, and is now the top goalscorer of La Liga. Neymar also took a penalty and all members of the MSN scored in the match. the final score was 6-0 to Barcelona.

      Real Madrid were very happy to see Barcelona getting crushed  and losing more and more points. Real Madrid are now only 1 point less than the leaders Barcelona and the second placed team Atlético Madrid. The team are chasing after the leaders and winning match after match. But the opponent ahead was very tough. The fourth placed team Villarreal that are in the semi-finals of the Europa League were coming to the Bernabeu. Real Madrid welcomed them with 1-0 lead after the first half, with a goal from Karim Benzema. In the second half Vazquez and Luka Modric scored to make the final score 3-0. A very good game from Real Madrid. But there were bad news. Cristiano Ronaldo was seen getting injured and had to come off in the final minutes leaving his team to play with 10 men. When Zidane was asked in the press conference about Ronaldo, he said it wasn't very serious but he wouldn't be able to play against Vallecano.

      So the team travelled to the Vallecas without Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zidane made some changes to rest some players (like Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Casemiro). But Karim Benzema was also injured and had to be replaced by Lucas Vazquez in the first half. The team was trailing with 2 goals against Rayo. But were able to get a goal before the end of the first half. In the second half Real Madrid managed to get the equalizer through Vazquez and in the 81st minuted Bale scored to make it 2-3. What a comeback from Real Madrid!

      As for Atlético, they played as they always do. Strong defence, and a few goals. In both of their matches (Against Malaga and Bilbao) they got a 1-0 win. The goals came from Correa and Fernando Torres. But the manager Diego Simeone was banned because of his actions during the match.

Premier League

Leicester in the Champions League. Who thought that. Well they are a step closer from winning the league as they now lead Tottenham with 8 points. They were able to get a 4-0 win against Swansea at the King Power stadium. Liverpool played against Newcastle Utd. and the former Real Madrid Manager Rafa Benitez. The first half ended 2-0 to Liverpool, but Newcastle made an excellent comeback and were able to draw 2-2 at Anfield. That probably ended Liverpool's hopes of finishing in the top three. Manchester City's Aguero has now scored 100 goals in the premier league and he's the second fastest person in the history of Premier League to reach 100 goals. As for Arsenal they are in very bad form. They weren't able to score and they drew 0-0 against Sunderland Away. But the biggest question now, that is becoming answered slowly is:

Will Leicester win the Premier League this year?
